After decades of being in awe of Nancy’s weaving prowess, I was delighted to take her first class in her gorgeous new weaving studio. I was truly pleased and amazed at how well my first project came out. I love it! I’d assumed it would take awhile to make something I would be pleased with, but with the attention to technique and detail that I’ve learned from Nancy, its all been very satisfying!

I have moved on to Nancy’s large floor loom and am having great fun making rag rugs. I started with my family’s rag box and soon found I like weaving with towels.

I had wanted to achieve some balance in my life; including a creative mode…weaving has become that and is now an important part of my life. I enjoy the build up of anticipation in the slow warping process and then the great satisfaction of playing with colors and the seeing the emerging patterns as I weave. I am looking forward to warping a loom I received for Christmas which belonged to my partner’s grandmother!

2010 Winter / Spring Class Schedule

Beginning Weaving
Students will learn the basics of weaving on a four harness table loom. We will go through the steps of designing and weaving at least two projects, from calculating the warp to finishing the projects.
6 week classes – Wednesday evenings 6-8 pm $145
January 20 – February 24
April 7th - May 12

Southwest Tapestry Rug Weaving
Students will learn various weft face joins, learn to work with a cartoon and create various shapes. Each student will design a small piece using the various tapestry techniques. Students must have taken Beginning Weaving or know how to warp a 4 harness loom and be familiar with plain weave.
6 week class – Monday evenings 6-8 pm $145
February 15 – March 22

Basic Twill Weave Weekend
Students will learn to read a draft, practice basic and advancing twills. Students will select a pattern(s), design and complete a project.
Prerequisite: Beginning weaving class
Weekend workshop 10 - 4 pm Saturday & Sunday $145
February 27-28

Twill Weave II Weekend – Advancing Twill
In this two-day workshop, students will learn to create original, complex patterns based on extending the elements of basic twill design. Students who take this class should have already taken the Basic Twill workshop
Weekend workshop 10 – 4 pm Saturday & Sunday $145
April 10-11

Twill Weave III Weekend - Undulating Twill
In this two-day workshop, students will learn to create twill patterns that curve, giving the appearance of "waves" across the fabric.

Spinning
4 week class – Tuesday evenings 6-8 pm $125
February 2 - 23

Spinning Weekend
Come for the weekend and learn to Spin! We will cover all the basics of fiber preparation, spinning on a drop spindle and spinning wheel and you will leave knowing how to create you own yarns. Wheels provided if you don't have one. Spinning your own animals fiber will also be discussed.
